This is a question I was once asked, which I still haven’t been able to answer. It was also the first question I brought to social media, although I usually address questions sent to me on WhatsApp.
May Allah guide us...Last week, I came across a question where I was asked to give advice: “Should one speak the truth or remain silent?”
This is because, in religion, there are certain truths that are better left unsaid. This statement came from the questioners, not from me.🥱🥱🥱
The question is...?
There’s a wife who has been married for three years but has not been blessed with a child. Because of this, she started facing pressure and criticism from her husband’s family. Why is this happening? During these three years without a child, her husband remarried, and Allah blessed the second wife with a child. Meanwhile, the first wife remained childless.
Due to this, she began seeking medical and traditional remedies for fertility, but none worked after many attempts. Later, a friend of hers advised her to visit a particular doctor at a hospital. When they went to the hospital and consulted the doctor, he suggested a procedure: an injection that would make her belly swell, resembling a pregnancy. This swelling would last for nine months, after which it would subside. By then, a baby would be procured and handed over to her, making it seem like she gave birth.
She agreed to the suggestion, and they went through with it. After nine months, everything was finalized. The entire family celebrated her “delivery,” praising Allah’s greatness. At that time, during the conflicts with her husband’s family over her inability to conceive, her in-laws had pressured her husband to divorce her. But her husband, out of his deep love for her, kept defending her, saying it was only a matter of time before she had a child. And now, they celebrated the arrival of a baby boy, claiming Allah had answered their prayers.
After adopting the child, she later conceived naturally and gave birth to a baby girl.
However, the shocking part is that her husband still doesn’t know the truth to this day. Now, the adopted child is in secondary school and over 12 years old. The woman has since divorced her husband and remarried, but no one knows the truth about this matter except the woman who orchestrated it, her friend, and the person who narrated this story to me. The person who shared the story only discovered the truth four years after the incident.
Now, she asked me to write about it.
The question is...?
Should the husband be told the truth, or should it remain a secret? This boy is now over 12 years old and in secondary school, and the woman is no longer in her husband’s house; she divorced him and remarried.
Yaa Allah.
